In memory of Jim McGarvey, an anonymous donor has made a $5,000 contribution to the Montana Professional Teaching Foundation to help create a union scholarship program in his name.

The Montana Professional Teaching Foundation board of directors has agreed to embrace the scholarship program and begin soliciting tax deductible contributions thereto.

Name of Program – Jim McGarvey Scholarship for Union Leadership in Public Education and Service 
Purpose – To help fund MEA-MFT union member participation in professional development opportunities that serve to grow quality public education and public service and union involvement and leadership therein. Existing relevant opportunities include:

• MEA-MFT Educators’ Conference Scholarships
• MEA-MFT Women’s Leadership Training
• Montana Human Rights Network Policy Institute Seminars
• AFL-CIO Rocky Mountain Labor School
• National Labor College
• Various other MEA-MFT, NEA, AFT, and AFL-CIO opportunities

Sources of funding – Individual, union, and corporate contribution . . . pass the hat.

Applicant Qualification – MEA-MFT member at least 5 years, relevance of professional development opportunity, references.
Size and number of award(s) – Solely dependent on dollars available.
