Head Start’s Take it Outside! Week
Oct. 19-23, 2009
Children today spend less time playing outdoors than any previous generation. The percentage of preschool children who are overweight has more than tripled since 1971. The situation is so dire, this generation of children is predicted to have a shorter life span than that of their parents.
To encourage outdoor play while celebrating the environment, Head Start Centers across the country are participating in the inaugural Take It Outside! Week, October 19-23, 2009. The event’s purpose is to get children outside, connect with the natural world, and increase physical activity.
Take part! Have a healthy picnic. Invite high school students to lead activities. Plan a nature walk. For free resources, ideas, and activities for Take It Outside! Week, visit www.aahperd.org/headstartbodystart/takeitoutside.cfm. |
