MEA-MFT Committee On Political Education (COPE)—a history of success!

Supporting member candidates who stand up for us

  • Fifteen MEA-MFT members served in the 2009 Montana State Legislature

  • Member John Fleming elected to legislature in 2008 to replace Rep. Rick Jore, Constitution Party member who would eliminate public education

  • MEA-MFT member Linda McCulloch elected, first to the Legislature, then Superintendent of Public Instruction, then MT Secretary of State in 2008

  • MEA-MFT member Denise Juneau elected MT Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2008.

Recommending friends of public education and public services of both parties

  • Supported U.S. Senator Jon Tester, Democrat and long time friend of working people

  • Supported Sen. John Brueggeman, Republican and union member in Polson

  • Supported Sen. Dave Lewis, Helena Republican and former state budget director

  • Supported Rep. JP Pomnichowski, Democratic small business owner in Bozeman

Passing ballot initiatives that make Montana a better place to live

  • Pension security constitutional amendment, to protect public employee and teacher retirements

  • Six mill levy for university system, essential to funding higher education

  • Minimum wage increase, a pay raise for hard working Montanans

Defeating bad ballot initiatives

  • CI-97, the initiative aimed at crippling public services and public education

  • CI-75, the initiative to require a super-majority to increase taxes

MEA-MFT COPE is accountable to YOU and all MEA-MFT members. Your elected COPE representatives interview candidates, research candidate statements and records, and make candidate recommendations to you and your fellow MEA-MFT members.
