Professional development & public policy

Marco Ferro, Public Policy & Professional Development Director

MEA-MFT provides many resources to help you do your job better and with greater satisfaction. And we give you a voice in public policy decisions that affect you and your job.

Professional development: Our cutting-edge workshops and conferences help you expand your knowledge, skills, and career options.  We offer these sessions all over the state.

Our annual MEA-MFT Educators’ Conference takes place every October, offering hundreds of sectionals on every topic in education.

MEA-MFT’s Regional Training sessions are open and free to all members. These sessions provide leadership development training on a variety of union and professional issues such as bargaining and grievance processing, job descriptions and evaluations, pay equity, good labor-management relations, and communicating effectively with your community members.

MEA-MFT offers training to help both certified teachers and education support professionals hone their skills and meet state and national standards. We coordinate the highly acclaimed ER&D (Education Research and Dissemination) workshops for teachers, and PASS training for paraprofessionals.

Through our Montana Professional Teaching Foundation, we coordinate the Montana Educator Forum, and National Board Certification scholarships and support, the Montana Teacher of the Year Program, and Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science teaching.

Public policy: MEA-MFT provides leadership at local, state, and national levels in promoting high standards of excellence in public services and public education.

We work closely with Board of Public Education, Board of Regents, Public Employees and Teacher Retirement Systems, and other public entities, making sure our members’ concerns are represented.

Our members can rest easy knowing that MEA-MFT is keeping close track of these public entities so you don’t have to.

MEA-MFT Public Policy Director Marco Ferro handles both professional development and public policy. You can contact him in our Helena office:; 800.398.0826, or 447.1462.
