Amazing John Fleming
Rep. John Fleming (St. Ignatius) is one of MEA-MFT’s 16 MEA-MFT members serving in the 2009 Montana Legislature. (Read more about our other legislator-members here.)
John teaches Social Studies and Traffic Education at St. Ignatius Middle School. He has taught in the district for 35 years.
What I do, and why it matters: I meet some of the personal and educational needs of approximately100 12 to 14 year olds each day of the week. We work on current events, basic reading and writing skills, U.S. History, Montana Studies and Environmental Geography.
Why I belong to MEA-MFT: I originally belonged to the MFT and recognized the need for unified efforts for common goals. When the opportunity to merge with MEA arrived I joined the effort, knowing this new larger and more diverse group had the potential to more effectively promote what is just in the work place.
What I do for fun/or what I dream about: Most activities outdoors are fun for me: skiing. hiking the Missions, gardening, ranching, building stuff, fly fishing, hunting.
Family/community involvement: Lydia and I raised three boys and had the best times of our lives doing just that. We stay in touch with a large segment of Lake County through work (St. Ignatius for me, Ronan for Lyd). I serve on the Lake Co Planning Board and St. Ignatius Rural Fire Board.
Good book/movie I’ve read/seen lately. “The World is Flat” and “Hot, Flat, and Crowded” (both by Thomas Friedman)
My hopes for the 2009 Legislature: Non-partisan, honest efforts to address as many of the concerns and needs of the people of Montana as possible. I would hope the 2009 Legislature might mirror the great state and people it represents.
